project description
Semi-structured data is stored in appropriate databases to be queried
efficiently. When the data is growing fast, databases become unavoidable large
and complex queries will then take much longer. This situation is dramatical
when short response times are an essential requirement. Furthermore when storage
limits are reached, the data has to be distributed to ensure availability. To
meet this challenge I present an approach to improve query evaluation on
semi-structured and large data through replication and parallelization. The data
will be duplicated and queries will be split to be performed parallel on all
database instances to shorten execution times. To provide an efficient
fragmentation of data an appropriate algorithm will be developed. These
fragments will then be distributed to different peers to minimize the database
storage consumption.
