abstract
The field of speech production has largely benefited in the last 20 years from the development of biomedical imaging systems like MRI. 2D and 3D models of the vocal tract articulators (jaw, tongue, lips, velum) have been built for various purposes. This presentation will give an overview of the data I have recorded and processed and the movement models I have derived from in the last six years. It will be illustrated along with various applications of modelling, which emphasize the need for accurate vocal tract models in many fields: building 3D virtual audiovisual talking heads, understanding speech emergence, prospecting nonhuman primate capacities or exploring human speech production mechanisms.
